‘Bihar model’ adopted by five states for beggary eradication
Even as the state government launched its Mukhyamantri Bhikshavriti Nivaran Yojana (MBNY) way back in 2011-12 underlining it with the compassionate and humane approach to be adopted by treating beggary as a ‘human tragedy’ that falls on a person, its bright spot marked by poignancy appeared four years later, when a strayed old-age ‘crorepati’ was made to join with his family living in 
Dubai and, still later, an equally old retired DSP-ranked official was also restored.
However, if the beggar is unwilling to join the parent family, we alternatively provide food and healthcare and also suitable skill to help in his or her employment, or create self-employment opportunity by providing working capital for sustainability. Their activities are monitored. The government’s existing social security programmes — like old-age pension, skilling and other schemes — are also dovetailed with it.

World Unani Day: 11 February
World Unani Day is observed globally on February 11 every year to mark the birthday of “Hakim Ajmal Khan”, an eminent Indian Unani physician.
Khan was a great scholar, a social reformer, a noted freedom fighter, as well as Unani medical educationist and founder of scientific research in the Unani System of Medicine.
The aim of this day is to spread awareness in masses and action about healthcare delivery through the Unani system of medicine worldwide through its preventive and curative philosophy.
The first Unani Day was celebrated in 2017 at Central Research Institute of Unani Medicine (CRIUM), Hyderabad.
India, Afghanistan sign MoU for construction of Shatoot dam
India and Afghanistan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding [MoU]over video-teleconferencing (VTC), for the construction of the Shahtoot Dam (Lalander Dam) on a tributary of the Kabul river in Afghanistan.
The project, which costs nearly $ 300 million, is a part of the New Development Partnership between India and Afghanistan.
The Lalander [Shatoot] Dam would meet the safe drinking water needs of Kabul City, provide irrigation water to nearby areas, rehabilitate the existing irrigation and drainage network, aid in flood protection and management efforts in the area, and also provide electricity to the region.
This is the second major dam being built by India in Afghanistan, after the India- Afghanistan Friendship Dam [Salma Dam], which was inaugurated in June 2016.

Nitin Gadkari calls for ‘all-round’ efforts to reduce road accidents by 50 pct before 2025
Union Minister for Road Transport, Nitin Gadkari has called for all-round efforts by all stakeholders to ensure that deaths due to road accidents are reduced by 50 per cent before 2025.
The Minister informed this at inauguration of the Webinar series launched by International Road Federation, India Chapter, on the theme of “Road Safety Challenges in India & Preparation of an Action Plan.”
India stands at number one position in road accidents in the world, ahead of US and China.
India is observing the Road Safety Month from 18th January 2021 to 17th February 2021 to build awareness on road safety issues.
Setting up of Migration Commission by NITI Aayog
NITI Aayog has formed a team to develop the National Action Plan for Migrant Workers.
The team is composed of members from various ministries of the Govt. of India, subject matter experts, NGOs and civil society organizations to develop practical action plans to solve problems related to migrant workers.
In order to safeguard the interests of migrant workers, the Central Government promulgated Inter-state Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1979.
The Act has now been incorporated into the “Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020”, and the Code was notified on September 29, 2020.
The above-mentioned code (usually called OSH Code) stipulate decent working conditions, minimum wages, grievance mechanism, protection from abuse and exploitation, and strengthen the skills and social security to all category of organized and unorganized workers, including migrant workers.
The guidelines apply to every agency that hired or employed 10 or more inter-state migrant workers on any day in the past 12 months.
Govt to strengthen the framework of NCLT: Finance minister
The government will strengthen the framework of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and implement systems such as e-courts along with alternate methods of debt resolution, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said.
Besides, the government will also introduce special framework for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which have been facing stress since the coronavirus pandemic.
Under e-courts system, virtual hearings are conducted.
The NCLT, which is assigned cases of company and corporate matters, with insolvency matters piling up, has been facing challenges in terms of infrastructure.
At present, hearing of all NCLT benches across India and NCLAT are conducted virtually following the pandemic and the guidelines issued by the government.
It has gone digital by adopting virtual hearings, online submissions with a new standard operating procedure under but the pandemic has resulted in a slow-down in the resolution process.
