World Day of Social Justice: 20 February

The United Nations’ (UN) World Day of Social Justice is observed on February 20 every year since 2009.

The day is observed to recognize the need to promote and tackle issues of social justice such as poverty, exclusion, gender equality, unemployment, human rights, and social protections

The day encourages the people to look at how social justice affects poverty eradication.

Oxford Economics Revises India’s GDP to 10.2% for 2021

The global forecasting firm Oxford Economics has revised India’s economic growth projection for the Calendar year 2021 to 10.2 percent, compared to previous estimate of 8.8 percent.

The reason for the upward revision is the receding COVID-19 risks and the shift in the monetary policy outlook.

Oxford Economics is headquartered in Oxford, United Kingdom and has 6 office locations across 5 countries. It provides global forecasts and analysis to predict and manage economic risk.

Cabinet approves Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement between India and Mauritius

 

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CECPA) between India and Mauritius

The India-Mauritius CECPA is the first trade agreement to be signed by India with an African country.

The agreement aims in liberalising norms to boost two-way commerce between the two countries.

The CECPA between India and Mauritius will cover 310 export items for India, while 615 products for Mauritius.

DRDO Carries successful user trials of indigenously-developed Anti-Tank Guided Missile Systems ‘Helina’ and ‘Dhruvastra’

 

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully carried out joint user trials of indigenously developed Helina and Dhruvastra Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) from the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) [HAL Dhruv] at the Pokhran deserts.

Helina is the Army version and Dhruvastra is the Air Force version for the ALH.

The missile systems have been designed and developed indigenously by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Ajai Malhotra becomes first Indian Chairperson of the Advisory Committee of the UN Human Rights Council

 

Ajai Malhotra has been elected as the Chairperson of the Advisory Committee of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

He is the first Indian to be elected to the post.

Malhotra first joined the Indian Foreign Services in 1977 and has previously served as ambassador to Russia, Kuwait, Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York and Romania.

South Africa’s Chris Morris becomes ‘most expensive player’ in IPL auction history

 

South-African all-rounder Chris Morris has broken all record as he became the costliest player in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, held in Chennai.

IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals has bought Chris Morris for Rs 16.25 crore.

The 33-year-old played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2020 season.

Prior to him, Yuvraj Singh was the costliest-ever buy in auction history, when he was bought for Rs 16 crore by Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2015.

India Tourism Mart Held in Virtual Mode

The 3rd edition of the event “India Tourism Mart 2021” was held in virtual mode.

 

The event is hosted by the Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism & Hospitality (FAITH), and the event is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, GOI.

This is a buying and selling event. Although it was named a Tourism Mart in 2018, it held the first event of this kind in 2015.

More than 250 buyers from 65 countries/regions actively participated in the event, and B2B interactions from hundreds of tourism exhibitors in India, including most state governments, hotel companies, travel operators, travel agencies, and travel transporters.
