- Bihar board fined Rs 5 lakh for wrongly failing girl
- The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) was fined Rs 5 lakh by the Patna HC for flunking a meritorious girl in the Class X exam this year. A bench passed the order after it became evident during the trial that petitioner Priyanka Singh had answered the questions correctly and yet was awarded poor marks due to the BSEB’s negligence. The petitioner was shown to have scored nine out of 100 in Sanskrit and 29 out of 80 marks in Science. She filed a writ petition in the HC claiming she couldn’t have fared so poorly.
- The court asked her to deposit Rs 40,000 which she would have to forego if her claims were found to be untrue after re-evaluation. The BSEB conducted re-evaluation and the girl scored 80 in Sanskrit and 61 in Science. The BSEB admitted her answer sheets were earlier not evaluated properly.
