Local self government is the govt. at the grass root level which looks after the administration at the local level. It give representation to the local people and possess fairly large measure of autonomy , raising atleast a part of its revenue locally and spending it on activities that are considered local.
Significance:
- Provide foundation to the grass root democracy.
- Act as a training ground for leader of future
- Real participation of people is possible only at this level.
- Local government is more capable form of government with respect to providing basic amenities.
- More economical form of government as it provide sustained vigilance , can be source of cheaper human resource, can help in reducing the burden of higher tier government
- Local government is vital for national progress as it is better position to recognise and tap local resources and talent which may otherwise get neglected.
