The purpose of the cabinet mission plan was to obtain an agreement with the Indian Leaders as to the framing of a constitution in India. The other purpose was to formulate the schemes for formulation of Constitution making body and to form interim government.

Reaction to the cabinet Mission Plan:

Congress:        Against the idea of weak centre and division of India into small states. Congress was against decentralisation and the idea was to have a strong centre. Congress wanted the grouping to be optional. Accepted the proposal related to constituent assembly. It rejected the idea of interim government.

Muslim league: Muslim league first approved the Plan but later on rejected it as congress declared that it would changed the scheme through its majority in the constituent assembly.

Akhali dal:       Akali Sikhs attacked the proposal on the ground that the inclusion of the sikhcommunityin the North Western Muslim Block would leave the Sikhs at the mercy of the muslims and imperil sikh religion and culture.
